Sansevieria cylindrica, also known as the African Spear Plant or Cylindrical Snake Plant, is a striking, architectural succulent native to Angola. This sculptural species is part of the Asparagaceae family and is closely related to the classic Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata).

Unlike its flat-leaved cousins, Sansevieria cylindrica features tall, cylindrical, spear-like leaves that grow upright in a fan or rosette formation. Each leaf is smooth, grey-green in colour, and beautifully banded with faint darker stripes. The ends taper to a gentle point, creating a clean, modern silhouette that fits perfectly in contemporary interiors.

Exceptionally hardy and low-maintenance, Sansevieria cylindrica is drought-tolerant, air-purifying, and almost indestructible — making it ideal for beginners, busy households, or office spaces. Mature plants may also produce tall flower spikes with clusters of small, fragrant, white-green blooms.

Sansevieria cylindrica – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light but is adaptable to lower-light conditions. Will tolerate direct morning or evening sun but avoid harsh midday rays, which may cause leaf scorch.

Watering

Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure — this plant stores water in its leaves and rhizomes, making it highly drought-tolerant. In winter, water even less frequently.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C. Can tolerate dips to 10°C but should be protected from frost.

  • Humidity: Tolerates dry indoor air perfectly; no misting required.

Soil and Potting

Use a gritty, well-draining cactus or succulent compost. A terracotta pot with drainage holes works best. Repot every 2–3 years in spring, or when the plant becomes root-bound.

Feeding

Feed once a month during spring and summer with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser. No feeding is required in winter.

Pruning and Maintenance

Minimal maintenance required. Remove any damaged or dried leaves at the base. Wipe the smooth leaves with a damp cloth occasionally to keep them clean and glossy.

Growth and Maturity

A slow-growing plant, typically reaching 60–120 cm tall indoors. Over time, it produces offsets (pups) from underground rhizomes, forming attractive clusters.

Common Issues

  • Soft or mushy leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Wrinkled leaves: Prolonged underwatering — water thoroughly, then allow to dry again.

  • Pests: Rare, but can occasionally attract mealybugs or spider mites.

Background and Benefits

Native to arid regions of Angola, Sansevieria cylindrica has adapted to survive extreme drought. Its sleek, sculptural form adds height and structure to plant displays, while its resilience makes it one of the easiest houseplants to care for. Like all Sansevierias, it also filters toxins from the air and releases oxygen at night, improving indoor air quality.

Great little watch for the money
Color: Brown/Brown/Natural, Color: Brown/Brown/Natural
I've just received the watch, so I can't comment on the durability. Hopefully it lasts a long time, because I really like this watch. My first impression of the watch was that it was a bit smaller than what I'm used to wearing. But when I put it on, it seemed like a good fit. The band looks great and feels pretty comfortable. I like the color of the band, and of the watch face itself. Even with my older eyes (56 years), I can easily read the time. The date, not so much. It's pretty tiny. Setting the time and date was pretty simple. And even though I knew this watch had it, I stumbled upon activating the Indiglo feature by accident. It's pretty cool, btw. Some people have commented on the ticking. The environment in which I wear the watch is never completely silent, even at home. I have to put the watch pretty close to my ear to hear it, and I have good hearing. When I do hear it, it's actually a pleasant sound to me. To sum it all up, I love this watch! I actually do a little watch collecting. This is by far the least expensive watch I own. And now, the one I'll wear the most.
